How to Invite God into Your Business: Worship, Strategy & the Proverbs 31 Way

Hey, sis! Have you ever wished a beautiful experience in worship could last forever? I’m sure you worship at home, but have you considered the beauty of integrating worship in your business?

I had to ask myself the same question. Far too long have I tried to separate jobs from my faith and later, my career from faith. Yet, if I recall that beloved hymn, Jesus is crowned Lord of all, even over our businesses. Worship is our way of life, so there is no separation of business and faith because Christ is our firm foundation.

Jesus is Lord over all, including your business

Girl, you know I have the bible to back this up. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us to do everything, heartily, unto the Lord, and it discourages people pleasing. Whether we build upon Christ or not, conducting business for the applause of other people is detrimental to its health. Human support comes and goes, but when the Lover of our souls takes the helm, it behooves us to give Him full sovereignty.

Practically, this looks like having a spirit of excellence, not perfection, as it concerns closing deals and maintaining rapport with clients and prospects. This gives us the gumption to go the extra mile and maintain integrity in our mission. Of course, we’d also have a competitive, creative advantage because we’d trust the Creator to guide our business plans and models and give us insight into best practices. All these–an excellent spirit, integrity, and creativity–are all signs of a worshipful life. These are attributes that we’ve seen in the lives of Daniel and his friends, and perfectly in the life of Jesus Christ.

Anna, the Entrepreneurial Virtuous Woman

In Proverbs 31, we meet the well-noted “Proverbs 31 Woman,”--Let’s call her Anna–who sought the Lord in the wee hours of the morning to get insight on how to structure her businesses, how to run her household, and how to prepare for the days ahead. Anna didn’t have time to waste, yet she had joy. For anyone to do all that she did while delegating and utilizing the strengths of her village, and still being kind and affirming to her husband and family, this exemplifies how she lived over time, not just one season.

What can we gather from her? As entrepreneurial women of God who are also wives and mothers, we worship as we assign tasks, discern seasons correctly, and correctly complete God-given assignments in those seasons.

Anna didn’t do it for praise, yet her family praised her anyway. She operated with godly wisdom and was trustworthy, considering everything she wanted to purchase and discerning whom to do business with. Working as unto the Lord helps us bring synchronization to work and home life.

The Anointed Business Woman

One of my favorite scriptures is of the widow with the oil found in 2 Kings 4:1-7. I love her boldness. She knew who she was and with what she connected. She reminded the prophet Elisha of her husband being a prophet and what was occurring in her life now that she was a widow. Then she did something remarkable. Instead of begging, groveling, or crying, she got quiet so that Elisha could speak and provide her instructions from the Lord.

We can learn from this by boldly coming to the throne of grace, being still, and waiting for our Father’s answers–yes, even for our businesses.

Of course, she didn’t receive typical instructions but something that would stretch and define her faith. I don’t think it was a coincidence that all she had left was oil after having nothing left. Oil represents the anointing of the Lord, and in essence, Scripture illustrates that even in the darkness, she knew the Lord was still with her. But she needed the strategy given by the man of God to know what to do with what she had.

I know I went on a tangent talking about her, but can you connect those dots to your own life as a creative/business owner, knowing that all it takes is a word from the Lord and His strategy to change the trajectory of your business for His glory and your good forever?

Partnering with God in Business

Practical ways to invite God in:

    • Pray over your products/services. I mean this literally. Pray the blessings of the Lord and His Word over every product you create and sell, and the services you offer.

    • Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance before making decisions. You can have the best ideas, but the Holy Spirit has insight and foresight and can simultaneously see the micro and macro details. He leads us into all truths, remember?

    • Dedicate time for worship before diving into work. Practicing this helps us be more focused and prioritize our tasks.

    • Treat each task, no matter how small, as an act of obedience. Everything God gives to us requires our willing obedience and stewardship. Period.

Truths to take away

  • You’re not just building a business—you’re building the Kingdom.

  • When we align with Him, our work becomes worship.

Here’s an action step for you:

Pause with prayer and invite the Lord to lead you in your business operations, and then write a short journal entry based on what the Holy Spirit ministered to you through this post. When you have completed that, return to this post and comment the word and emojis “Done! ❤️🔥”

In Him,

Candace
