How to Raise Kingdom Kids in a Chaotic World, Part 1

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
— Deuteronomy 6:6-7, ESV

As in A Tale of Two Cities, there is much chaos in the world around us. But we must hold on to the Word of God, despite that famous quote Dickens wrote. Mama, if you have found yourself struggling with fear about raising godly children, take a deep breath because we’re about to explore how unshakeable and confident you can be when raising your sweet babes.

Lead by Example

One main thing we must remember is the lessons we teach them through our daily lifestyles. I am a blogger and editor, and I am involved in our ministry at church—yet none of that matters to my children. What matters to them most is how we connect and interact. I bet that’s the same for you. Sure, they’re proud of us for all of our accomplishments and accolades, but what sticks with them is what they’ve caught by watching how we live.

Firm Foundation

  • Understanding salvation: If your children don’t know what salvation means, this is where you start. Talk about it day in and day out, and also live before them what a crucified life means. At the right time, you’ll see the fruit of your labor.

  • Make disciples: Sis, the Great Commission includes discipling our children. Teach them how to pray and remain steadfast in faith. Teach them verse memorization and how to study and apply God’s Word.

Mama, there is more to add here, and we will build on this in a future post. But for now, let’s make sure we are sound examples of Christlikeness for our children and that we’re laying a firm spiritual foundation in their lives.

Next Steps

  • It’s time for your spiritual checkup! Upon reading this, examine yourself. Can your child(ren) see the light of Christ in you while you’re at home without much sleep? Is your relationship with the Lord on autopilot, or do you still have your spark? Ask yourself these questions and write down your answer.

  • Have the conversation about salvation today. Once you’ve done that, answer these questions. Was it easy to be direct with your child about Jesus? If they had questions, were you comfortable and confident in answering them?

I know this isn’t easy, but I’m proud of you for wanting to ensure that your children are on the right path. I see you, Mama, and I love you! In the comments below, share a helpful Bible verse about leading your kids to Christ.

Candace
