Still Waiting? Ways to Trust God When You Don’t Want To

Are you in a transitional place where you know what God promised you, yet the waiting period is hard to bear? What if I told you I discovered a secret that will make the wait well worth it?

I have not been the best at waiting well, in any capacity. I kept despising the “long” timeframes when I realized something true for us all.

When we complain while waiting, we are no different from the children of Israel in the wilderness. How often have we gotten on our high horse as their posture aggravated us, yet we were also riddled with impatience, unforgiveness, and unbelief? But, thank God, we have hope!

The Secret and the Word

Remember that secret I wanted to share? Well, the secret is simply this: resting in the Father leads to patiently waiting, which is waiting well. We see Him keeping His Word with His people throughout the Holy Scriptures. In exchange for sharing His Word with them, all He ever wanted was their undivided devotion. Let’s look at some of those examples now.

Reading Habakkuk 2:2-3, we see the Lord provide Habakkuk instructions on what to do with the vision He gives him. He also reminded him that if it seems to take a long time getting to him, stay in faith anyway. We also see Job, awaiting to see how the Lord would deliver him, said the popular verse, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Even in the New Testament, Paul had to tap into this after realizing the thorn in his flesh would remain.

What Can You Do?

  1. Acknowledge Where You Are: In this space, share openly with Abba where you are right now. You can do this by praying aloud or journaling. Take your time here so that you can fully release.

  2. Read the Word with Understanding: Approach your reading time with openness, knowing that the Holy Spirit is the revealer of truth and the best teacher. Lean into Him by asking Him to help you understand the Word and make it come alive to your spirit.

  3. Praise Him in Advance: When your perspective changes, so does your praise. Offer thanksgiving, worship, and praise with lifted hands and hearts and expressions of faith, knowing that He’s still with you, all is well, and His timing and process are far more excellent than anything you could imagine for yourself.

First things first

Are you willing to take action right now as you practice waiting patiently? If this has encouraged you, as an act of faith, let’s uplift each other in the comments.

In Him,
