How to Raise Kingdom Kids in a Chaotic World, Part 2

Yesterday, we shared about raising kingdom kids despite the world’s chaos. I am going deeper because our parenting should reflect the strength and character of God so that our children will do the same. Okay, Mama, pull up your boots, and engage in the fight!

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
— Psalm 127:3-5

Still Leading by Example

  • The power of words and tones. Your words pack so much power, so what are you saying to your children? Are your words laced with grace and kindness, or are they nagging, accusing (like Satan 😫), and harsh? I’ve struggled here, and I’ll admit that I realized my children aren’t responsible for what I say and how I say it. The good news is that transformation is for us, too.

  • Key bible verses to meditate on:

  • Jesus Posture. Click on the left to see more about the book one of my sweet friends wrote. It reminds us to understand our physical posture for prayer and the posture of our hearts. Are we matching God’s heart or still inundated with carnality?

    • Here’s a challenge: Read the four Gospels, focusing on what Jesus said and how He moved. Journal what the Holy Spirit highlights for you.

Built to Last

  • Endurance: Children are naturally strong and resilient, so we can easily teach them spiritual resilience by engaging them based on their personalities. For example, they are taught about stamina when they learn physical fitness or organized sports. We can use their involvement and connect it with the scripture.

What’s Next?

  • Now that we’ve shared about being a godly example, building a firm foundation for them, and reiterating that they are strong, it’s time that we put these tips into practice. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, He will show us the specifics that each of our children needs that will help them shine for the glory of God. Practical steps include:

    • Pray without ceasing. Get your journal and write down—and date—your prayers. Pray with the expectation that our Father hears you!

    • Wait it out. We have to remember that raising our children is not an overnight process. It’s not a sprint but more of a marathon. Just as we’re training them for endurance, we need to hold the line as well.
