The Biblical Perspective on Health & Wellness—It’s Worship!

What if your wellness routine was more than a checklist—what if it was an offering to God? Think about it. Do we have spiritual stamina if we’re physically sick? Often, no, and the converse is also true. When well-rested, the spiritual decisions we make or need to make are more obvious and easier to follow.

Come and journey with me as we explore the biblical foundation of health as worship and why our bodies matter to God.

Created in His Image: Our Bodies Matter

In Genesis 1:27-28, God desired an untarnished, authentic, and pure relationship with us, like a loving father and his devoted children.

Psalm 139:13-16 reminds us that even before birth, the Lord intentionally crafted us while we were in our mother’s womb. Let’s pause a moment. As a mother, I remember looking at those growth charts when pregnant with my children, anticipating each milestone with awe and wonder. Only an Intelligent Creator could imagine causing cells to replicate, transform, and develop an entirely new person. The design of the body illustrates how we should function spiritually. During the growth stage, no one can physically see all that goes on in the development of a baby. It is a process done in secret because the baby would die if born during the initial stages of development.

Your Body is a Temple

Paul gives us a powerful reminder in 1 Corinthians:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit…? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”1 Corinthians 6:19–20

Your body is sacred. Your food, rest, movement, and care choices aren’t just personal—they’re spiritual. Stewardship of your health isn’t about vanity but honoring the Holy Spirit who dwells within you.

Living Sacrifices: Health as an Act of Worship

Worship isn’t limited to singing or church attendance. Paul writes:

“Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”Romans 12:1

Taking care of your health becomes worship when you offer it to God—when you choose to eat nourishing food, rest well, move with joy, and listen to your body’s needs as a response to His goodness.

Jesus Modeled Wholeness

Jesus healed the whole person. Throughout the Gospels, He healed the sick, calmed anxious hearts, and met physical needs. He even rested and retreated for renewal (Luke 5:16).

He’s still doing this today.

He showed us that wellness matters to God, not just spiritually, but physically and emotionally too. As we follow Christ, we pursue wholeness in Him.

Grace Over Guilt

Before making checklists and goals, take a deep breath and remember this: God doesn’t demand perfection. He invites you to walk in grace.

“Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”Proverbs 4:23

Your heart matters. When your heart desires to honor God, even small steps toward health are acts of worship. Healthy habits are developed here.

A Sacred Journey

Caring for your body is a holy endeavor. Whether you’re drinking more water, going on a walk, or choosing to rest, you’re saying: “Lord, I honor You with this temple.”

But honoring your body isn’t just about what you do—it’s also about what you say.
