The Power of Prayer Journaling: 3 Tips to Deepen Your Relationship with God
Hey, girl, hey! From April 23rd to April 30th, we’ll revisit topics covered in earlier posts, staying relevant to what matters now.
Have you ever poured your heart out on paper and felt lighter afterward? Sis, prayer journaling isn’t just a cute faith practice—it’s a lifeline. Writing your prayers creates space for honesty, healing, and clarity.
I realized that I’ve been blogging for almost 20 years. My college degree path was English, emphasizing writing and publication studies. Also, I’ve been born again for several years. And even with all that fanfare, I had no idea how effective such a simple tool, such as prayer journaling, is. Thank God I’m here now.
This intentional prayer journaling draws us closer to our Father with these three tips.
1. Make It Personal – Write Like You’re Talking to God
📖 “Pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us.” – Psalm 62:8
Forget the formalities. Write as if you’re sitting across from your bestie. Be raw, real, and honest.
Don’t get stuck in your head here, Sis. It’s not sacrilegious to approach our Father as you would a bestie you love and respect. The Lord desires truth in the inward parts, remember? It could be as simple and straightforward as, “Abba, I love You so much and I’m grateful that You love me and can handle all of me. However, right now I’m pissed completely off about…”
2. Track His Faithfulness – Build a Testimony Trail
📖 “Great is Thy faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:23
There’s power in flipping back through your prayers and seeing what God has done. Your journal becomes proof that He hears and answers.
Recently, I reached out to my loved ones to ask them what I could pray about them. Upon getting the requests, I placed them in my journal and dated them. As God answers these prayers, I jot down the date He answered them and give Him thanks.
You can do this practice whether praying for your household or others.
3. Listen Through Writing – Let the Holy Spirit Speak
📖 “Write the vision, and make it plain…” – Habakkuk 2:2
Your journal is also where God speaks. Leave space to write what you feel the Holy Spirit is saying.
This concept is self-explanatory. The Father always speaks to us, even when we’re not listening. Make room for Him, love. Remember, stillness is essential here, so try your best to avoid distractions during this precious, intimate moment.
I’m grateful the Lord always provides ways to draw us closer to Him, even creatively through prayer journaling.
If this blessed you, share in the comments below how you plan to get into the prayer journaling habit.
In Him,
Candace
